Before LED lamps came into being, almost the entire world had to depend on incandescent lamps and CFL lamps. While CFL lamps are bright and emit lesser heat when compared to incandescent lamps, there is no denying the fact that both are not known to be good as far as energy efficiency is concerned. However, there is no doubt that LED lights have come a long way over the past few decades. Today, whether it is led canopy lights wholesale or some other form of lighting including hazardous location lighting, there are enough reasons to believe that LED Lamps are considered to be a better choice. Hence, it would be a good idea to have a brief look at the overall history of LED Lamps.
Brief History of LED Lamps
The first LED lamps were invented sometime in 1962 and therefore these lamps have been around for almost 59 years now. However, it has grown and evolved over the past many years and it would be interesting to know more about it over the next few lines.
- Gary Pittman and Robert Biard are credited with the inventions of LED lamps. They started the spadework in 1961 while they were working for Texas Instruments. The size of these LED lamps at that point in time was so miniscule that it did not have any use.
- The work for producing end-user beneficial LED lamps continued almost the entire 1960s. This led to the emergence of orange and bright red LED lamps.
- Crawford was another person from Monsanto, who invented LED lamps that were 10 times more powerful than the lamps that were previously available in the market.
- The research work went on and it was during the 1990s that we saw quite a few breakthroughs as far as LED lighting technology was concerned. The period also saw the LED lights being coated with fluorescent phosphors and this gave birth to the modern day LED lamps.
